Alaskan Adventures

This is my life on the Denver Glacier just outside of Skagway, Alaska. I am a handler at this dog camp. I have been around dogs my whole life, and have been running sled dogs for about 10 years. I will try to write when I am in town, but that is only day a week. Hope you enjoy my blogs. Later..........

Hurt and Restless

Hello Again……. I came down this morning on the first flight, so got into town at around 8:45 am.  I will be in town for at least 1 week most likely closer to 2 weeks.  Two days ago I felt a sharp pain in my neck down into my arm.  Then I had a bad ach in there after.  So I told the manger about it that night and he said to see how it feels in the morning.  The next morning it still really hurt and so they sent me down this morning to the doctors.  I have a pulled ligament and my shoulder bones are to far apart she said ( not really sure what that means ) so I am in a sling and can not lift more then 15 pounds with my other arm, and that is at least until I go back and see her in  week.  So my boss told me to enjoy Skagway.  I understand why he is keeping me down here, but I so would rather be up on the glacier.  But I will do what I am told, for once huh mom……Joel is not real excited for me to stay down either but oh well.  Cori my roommate was about to go to work in Juano on the glacier by now she gets to stay a while longer to fill in for me as Joel’s handler. Other wise life on the glacier has been pretty boring.  On Monday and Tuesday were weather days so we did latterly nothing on those days but take care of the dogs.  Oh and sleep a lot.  This afternoon Cori and I took the White Pass and Yukon Route Railroad to Canada and back.  We never got off the train, but the sights were gorgeous.  That is the way we drove up here and I was amazed at how much it has changed in a month and a half.  We loved it.  It is also very nice to be locals so we get discounts almost everywhere we go.  Like the train ride is normally $130 I believe, but we got to go for free since we work on the glacier.  It sweet.  Well that’s all for now.  I guess I will be writing soon……

Jamie just helped me to get on & then looked at ALL the pics. Isn't it Beautiful. I never thot I'd say I wanted to go back but surely hope to someday! Love your necklace. Louie bought me a necklace too, with same stones, spelling out ALASKA.The stones are called Glacier Pearl.Such a nice momento. I've had so many compliments when wearing mine. You will too. Hope you're feeling better. Cute hairdo. Love You, Dinny

What a wonderful tan on your last 2 pictures. I thought it was too cold to get a tan in AK. And that beautiful necklace you have on. Was it expensive? Sure looks nice. Don't know if I will get back to you in the next couple of days, but do wish you an early Happy Birthday!!

So good to hear your voice again, Sat. PM, and am so happy that you got to take the train ride. Yes, take advantage of EVERYTHING tht you can do while up there. Never know when you get back. And I am praying, for your shoulder to heal. Hate that you can't be out on the glacier. I imagine we'll be talking (phone) more this week with you in town. Got your pictures yesterday. Your Mom bro't them to church. After church went to Hazel's for dinner. What a simply gorgeous train ride! Love to see all the pictures that you can send. A great way to send them too. Love, Grandma

Sorry to hear of your neck and shoulder pain. Do as the doctors say, and take care of yourself. Enjoy every thing that you can. Sorry, you can't help with the dogs for 2 weeks. I didn't have any trouble getting through this time, using the fwd from your Grandma! Irene
